Duncansville man killed after being hit by tractor

UPDATE: ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Duncansville man is dead after he was hit by a tractor-trailer early Tuesday morning.

Logan Township police were sent to the area of East Pleasant Valley Blvd. and Lafayette Lane at 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a tractor-trailer. According to police, 34-year-old Justin Sanders was found dead on the road and no life-saving measures could be taken.

The 67-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer told officers he was driving west on East Pleasant Valley Blvd. when he saw Sanders in dark clothing walking in the middle of the right lane. The driver said he didn’t have enough time to stop his vehicle before he hit the man.

According to police, the driver’s employer provided dash camera video of the incident at the scene which supported the driver’s story. The video showed Sanders walking down the right lane of Pleasant Valley Blvd. and facing away from traffic. Police noted in their report conditions outside offered little to no lighting.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident and no charges are being filed at this time.

The Blair County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene at 4:40 a.m. East Pleasant Valley Blvd was closed in the Greenwood section of Altoona as authorities investigated the incident. The roadway has since reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY (WTAJ) — An early morning crash has left part of a major Altoona road closed in the Greenwood section of the City.

The crash happened on East Pleasant Valley Blvd. in the area of Best Way Pizza.

While details are limited, East Pleasant Valley Blvd. is closed from Harvard Lane to past Dino’s Pizza (Temple Lane). A detour is currently in place.

Motorists, depending on where you are, may want to utilize I-99 to bypass Pleasant Valley Blvd.

Details are limited and Pennsylvania State Police have been called in to investigate.
